Togo

Bboxx is transforming lives and unlocking potential by connecting consumers and deploying innovative products across the country.

Bboxx has operated in Togo since 2017, when the company was awarded a tender to install solar home systems across the country, primarily in rural areas. In 2018, Bboxx entered a joint venture with EDF, which took a 50% stake in Bboxx’s Togo operations. The partnership operated under the name “Bboxx avec EDF” and accelerated both investment and deployment of off-grid electricity across the country. In 2019, “Bboxx avec EDF” customers in Togo became the first in Africa to receive a government subsidy specifically for solar energy payments. The subsidy formed part of the Togo Government’s national electrification strategy, known as “CIZO”, a word from the local Guin language meaning “to light up.”

In February 2026, Bboxx ended its partnership with EDF and took sole control of its Togo operations.

To date, over 100,000 Togolese people have access to clean energy at home, in their communities, and in their businesses for the first time.
