Gulamu Shabani Fulgence
My name is Gulamu Shabani Fulgence, and I’m currently the Field Manager at Bboxx DRC. I’ve been with the company for over five years now, and it’s been an incredible journey. When I first joined Bboxx, I started in a lower position. What attracted me to the company was the nature of the business, providing electricity solutions to improve the well-being of the Congolese population. It felt amazing to be part of something so impactful.
I started when Bboxx was expanding its operations and needed to open a second shop in Bukavu. I was hired as a Retail Sales (RS) representative, In just four years, I was promoted four times, eventually becoming the Field Manager. What is truly remarkable about Bboxx is how they recognize and reward hard work. If you’re dedicated and show results, the opportunities for growth are endless.
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced in my role is maintaining an efficient team on the field. Fieldwork is tough, and it’s hard to keep the same level of performance over time. You constantly need to recruit and bring new life into the team to keep things moving forward. Another challenge we have been dealing with is fraud and corruption. It’s something that can severely impact the profitability of the business. To tackle this, I’ve had to implement strict processes and regularly follow up with the team to ensure we’re operating with integrity.
With my experience in several companies, Bboxx has the most amazing culture. The atmosphere among colleagues, the collaboration between superiors and subordinates, and the way the company recognizes hard work has been instrumental in my growth. This culture of support and recognition is what allowed me to reach the position I hold today.
One of the proudest moments of my career was when I proposed an idea that significantly impacted our sales. We were looking for ways to boost sales and grow the business, and I suggested adding a parabolic antenna to our TV products. My superiors trusted me, and we launched the project. The results were incredible, TV sales exploded because customers loved having access to free channels. The competition even had to follow our lead because they couldn’t keep up without offering the same service. Today, Bboxx DRC is the only country in our network that sells TV products with parabolic antennas, and it all started with my idea.
When I joined Bboxx, it was still a young company with just one shop. My first mission was to help expand the business by opening our second shop. As we continued to grow, so did the opportunities for me to take on more responsibilities. Each expansion meant new roles were created, and because I was performing well, I was promoted time and time again. The trust that the company has placed in me has been crucial to my development. They saw my potential and gave me the chance to prove myself, and I am grateful for that. In my experience, what makes Bboxx different from other companies is how decisions are made to develop the business and how young talents are nurtured and pushed toward success. I’m living proof of that. The company doesn’t just focus on profits—it invests in its people, which is why I’ve been able to achieve so much here.
The success of the parabolic antenna project wasn’t just about my idea, it was about the collaboration that followed. I worked closely with the Head of New Product and Innovation, and together, we turned that idea into a reality. It was a great example of how teamwork at Bboxx can lead to incredible outcomes.
What I appreciate most about working at Bboxx is how the company recognizes and rewards effort. In less than four years, I was promoted four times, and today, I hold a position that reports directly to the Managing Director. It’s a testament to how much the company values hard work and dedication. One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is seeing the direct impact our work has on people’s lives. I think about the children who can now study at night because they have electricity, or the families who are connected to the world through TV for the first time. It makes me incredibly proud of what we’re doing at Bboxx. We’re not just selling products—we’re changing lives.
