Laurent Van Houcke is the Co-founder and Chief Operations Officer of Bboxx.

Born in 1988, Laurent is from Belgium. He studied Electrical Engineering at Imperial College London. While studying, Laurent met our two other co-founders – Mansoor Hamayun and Christopher Baker-Brian. Through their experiences travelling, they saw first-hand the challenges that communities and businesses face without access to energy supplies. From 2008-2010, Laurent ran e.quinox, a successful student charity, along with his classmates, Mansoor and Chris. e.quinox initially brought electricity to six villages in Rwanda and continues to operate today.

Following the university, Laurent also did multiple internships at EDF on the Power Academy Program

Over 13 years ago, Mansoor, Chris and Laurent founded Bboxx to create a sustainable, affordable, and commercial solution that would allow for unprecedented access to clean energy and other life-changing products to transform the lives of millions.

As Chief Operations Officer of Bboxx, Laurent manages investments and relationships with a network of partners over 10 countries in the developing world, sharing best practices and implementing Bboxx’s standard operational Playbook to finance our distributed businesses across our markets in Africa.

Laurent is currently based in Kigali, Rwanda overseeing Bboxx’s investments and operations across the continent.
