Tomorrow’s Rural Home launched by BBOXX

Vision of the off-grid rural house of the 2020s to be unveiled in Kigali on 8 November. Launch forms part of global conference Unlocking Solar Capital Africa and coincides with BBOXX reaching a record 50,000 households in Rwanda.

6 November 2018 – Bboxx, a next generation utility platform, will unveil its vision of a typical 2020s rural dwelling in the developing world at Unlocking Solar Capital Africa 2018.

The house, Tomorrow’s Rural Home, reflects the needs and desires of rural households in the developing world. It represents Bboxx’s outlook on how new technologies can address these needs, transform the lives of off-grid communities and power growth in rural Africa.

The launch coincides with Bboxx reaching a milestone 50,000 active households, 250,000 customers in Rwanda. Its solar home systems provide affordable energy for household use, such as lighting, charging mobile phones, and powering TVs and radios.

Tomorrow’s Rural Home has been created by Bboxx and select innovation partners using smart, sustainable building materials and design. The Home showcases Bboxx’s range of products and services, designed to bring the on-grid experience in an off-grid location. These include:

  • Clean, affordable, reliable energy – a pay-as-you-go solar energy system, for households and micro businesses.
  • Connect – affordable internet service bundled with internet enabled devices.
  • Cook – LPG gas stoves and canisters and biogas, available on a pay-as-you-go basis.
  • Pulse – a cloud-based task management platform, to help distributed service companies like Bboxx manage customer service, predicting when product maintenance will be required before faults occur, assisting customers with upgrades.

Bboxx is already positively impacting the lives of 750,000 people living in off-grid communities in Africa and Asia by providing clean, reliable and affordable solar electricity. Bboxx recognises that electricity is the entry point to a broader range of products and services as well as further economic development.

The launch of Tomorrow’s Rural Home will take place at an exclusive event after the second day of the Unlocking Solar Capital Africa Conference on 8 November. Bboxx is a diamond sponsor of the Conference and will be exhibiting at Stand 14.

Mansoor Hamayun, CEO and co-founder of Bboxx, said: “Tomorrow’s Rural Home captures the aspiration of off-grid communities, who want affordable utilities to improve their quality of life.

“It is unacceptable that access to basic needs such as reliable electricity, cooking gas and internet is difficult for many rural households and businesses across the developing world. Our vision is to deliver a whole range of these vital utilities to those without them.

“The Home reflects our strategy to broaden from being a provider of solar home systems to a multi-utility company, transforming the lives of underserved households in the developing world.”
